My daughter has a pit bull that she has had since he was a puppy. He's
smart, sweet and very gentle. I think stories like this are a reflection on
the dog owner, not the dog breed.

FORT WORTH — A blind woman was recovering Monday after she and her guide dog
were attacked by a pair of pit bulls while waiting for a ride to church
Sunday
morning.
A woman known to neighbors as "Miss Shirley" was standing with her dog on
the sidewalk waiting for her ride to church when the attack occurred.
The curb on Bridalwreath Drive bears tire marks from a car that Tyrone
Whitlow drove up to intercede.
“Sitting there revving the engine, honking the horn; dogs just still
attacking the other dog—just still attacking without stopping," Whitlow
said. "Car
didn't even affect them. We pulled out. Did it again. Didn't move or
anything.”
Whitlow said another neighbor poured buckets of water on the attacking dogs,
which ended the melee.
“They left. The dogs left. Just strolled off like nothing ever happened,”
Whitlow said.
The victim was taken to Huguley Hospital for treatment, but she was not
listed as a patient on Monday. A neighbor said she might be staying with
friends.
Miss Shirley's guide dog was in stable condition at the I-20 Animal Medical
Center.
Roy Eubanks, blinded by a childhood hunting accident, lives in the same
neighborhood with his vision-impaired wife, Sharon. Eubanks said he might
have easily
been the one who was attacked Sunday morning, but rain prevented him from
going out with his guide dog, Ellis.
The blind community, their friends, and family members are concerned.
“Sharon's brother called this morning and said he's going to pick up some
bear repellent,” Eubanks said. “Next time he comes by, he's going to bring a
can
for us—so we're going to try that.”
They're not the only ones in the neighborhood who are worried.
Bob and Janet McElroy have seen several pit bulls running loose in the
Southwest Fort Worth neighborhood near McCart Ave. and Sycamore School Road.
“They
are scary," Bob McElroy said. "We had one that came right up to our door
here. We couldn't even get out of our house,”
I had a family pet, a boxer, that was killed by wandering pit bulls, so I'm prejudiced.
I've seen pit bulls that seem friendly, and they sure are intelligent, but I think the earth would be much better off without them.

That is such a sad story! I have a friend with 2 pitbulls who are quite placid and no harm, though, so I don't think they are all generally like that by nature, but that pair who attacked that woman should be put down or something...
the owner of the dogs, did have them put down with no fuss. I still think that some breeds get a bad reputation. It wasn't that long ago that german shepards had a bad reputation too. So goes it for the doberman too.
i hate pitbulls, our complex forbids them.

Bad news travels faster than any good news that you have... it's from a song by Cross Canadian Ragweed. Instead of the society spreading bad news try researching,
have an open mind. Help to spread positive information there is plenty of literature to support facts on this breed. There are always 2 sides to every
story it is FACT that this breed requires a significant amount of attention. Their goal is to please their owner and they are naturally aggressive to other
animals but not humans, they actually make great babysitters for small children. Because they have a high tolerance for pain and are very protective,
children can poke, pinch and pull on them and it won't bother them. That is if they are raised around the children. A chihuahua is quicker to bite a child
in the face for aggravating it than a pit bull (and that is fact). They are very territorial, so if you chain it up to the tree in the backyard and ignore
them they are going to defend their family. They are very sensitive and get their "feelings" hurt when they are in trouble, they pout and get jealous,
too. When they are mad at you for going to work they'll dig in the trash and eat all the Q-tips and string it all over the house. Pits are not to be underestimated
they are very intelligent and strong-willed. The dog from the movie "Cheaper By the Dozen" is a pit bull. Did you hear during the making of the movie that
it attacked anyone? The RCA dogs were Pit Bulls, and the dog from the Little Rascals was as well. It's almost like being a little racist if you think about
it. So society should do their homework, before jumping to conclusions, open your mind. While surfing the net for "need to know info" look into it a little
further to get a better understanding. You wouldn't appreciate someone turning a story around on you to make you look like the bad guy and you would expect
someone to listen to you to defend yourself. They don't have a voice to do that so it's up to us.
